Hey everyone! if you don’t remember me I used to be Co Network Administrator back in the day. Prior to that I used to have my own server linked, zoom-radio.*. Now I’m just a lonely part-time Server Administrator for the Bittraffic server. I also have recently took over the development of this website so if you have any idea’s or concerns please contact me directly. I have managed other major networks such as AppleSlice, H4ck0r, Pr3fix, and Atomic-IRC. I used to run my own web hosting company known as Zoom Hosting but did not get far due to finical reasons. But enough about me you can always ask more if you like.

What’s going on at mIRCaddict!

Alright everybody, there’s some things going on at mIRCaddict! I’m going to start off with saying that we’ve had some recent staff changes. JaC and mir have all gone off do to other things, we wish them well; Tilde is on a break. Zsec is back and administrating the website, so if you want stop in and give him a buzz. We’ve been actively discussing the next major moves for the network and we’d like to hear the community! Forums are up and running over a forums.mircaddict.net so please stop in and make yourselves heard! If anyone has any suggestions, comments, concerns or cookies you can always find you friendly opers in #help, on the forums or pop over to the staff page to find our various e-mail addresses. Stay addicted!

mIRCaddict has been serving the internet since 2004. Recently activity has died down a bit but not for much longer! We have

a few idea’s to drive new traffic to the network but your comments and suggestions are more then welcome! We are finally implementing a Java Chat Client on our website. We will soon also offer a pre-configured trial version of mIRC available for download as well. We will make more posts as these things develop. In the mean time we hope to see you there!

Recent Disturbances

At around 4:40PM Eastern time, we had a bit of a disturbance on our network.

A disgruntled competitor of BitTraffic and ex-user of mIRCaddict decided to convince one of our server owners to switch to his network and give total control to him.

This user, which most of you are probably aware of, Brainkill, owner of a ghetto hosting company, decided to change the Routing password, which IRCops use for routing purposes and give himself NetAdmin access, to GLINE the entire network.

During this time, We regained control over the network, removed the IRC server in question, and GLINE’d Brainkill.

Our IRCops Amun and Hyper (mIRCaddicts Website Administrator) tracked down the culprit, called him up on skype, and recorded his confession.

In the future, we hope to bring better security to the network so this WILL not happen again. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our users, and hope you can forgive us for the downtime.

Routing Update

Great news for routing staff! You can now view routing information without the need of a .txt file! I know it seems unbelieveable buts its true! Just click the “Routing” link right under the “Staff Area” and you’re done! No more wasting time searching for routing information from people and providers because it’s updated 24/7 by Network Admins. Please send all donations to zsec@mircaddict.net for this cause.

We have come a long way in our 2 years running our network. Thanks to a great team, their efforts, and investments. We finally have the stability and capacity to handle the future. We have a network of users that speak different languages from all different places world wide. Nice to see such a variety of users. Its funny to think a great network consisting of all dedicated servers at datacenters world wide started on home machines and cable/dsl lines.

Hello everyone! I’m sure you all have questions about the recent renaming of Atomic-IRC. We have renamed the network in hopes of being more versitle, more dynamic, and more appealing to users. I also believe its more of a ‘classic’ name. Its a name that will hit it big and go down in history! Its something that everyone will remember and no one can immitate. We are still the great friendly network we were before. We try to better ourselves every day. We have a chance to make a new name and reputation as far as abuse and oper control. We still have our old domains pointed to us so we wont have much of a user loss except for the few who absolutely cant stand the name. I’m sorry to those few who do not appreciate our network for what it really is. I never meant to upset or disturb anyone. I think its a wonderful name, and we have more potential then ever! I’m going to make the very best of it. How about you?

A New Year

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! (well nearly)
And look how far we’ve come. Atomic-IRC is now over a year old and a few thousand users larger, not to mention the massive increase in links and greatly improved stability over the past 12 months.

We’ve linked many servers and their owners in our time, we’ve also added hundreds of olines in the past (including the h4ck0r days). The most memorable of those, in my opinion, being; Melkor, bigpoppa420, Jet and mig—. But we can’t forget how much the current opers have helped us along more recently, I’d like to Big Up the best network helpers and some of my good friends; Hexagon, Azrael, Amun, hyper, DJ_Ps|h0` and [T]yphoon. Of course not forgetting the king and queen of the network; Stalker and Sweet_Lady. Props to every other oper and friend of the network I’m not forgetting you either.

What a year its been.. and what a year its going to be too. Will Atomic-IRC just keep on growing? Of course it will, the question is how big will it get. I can proudly say im a member of the best network in the world, and always will be. Long Live Atomic-IRC.

Also, to reduce network load, we have added Omega.IL.US.Atomic-IRC.net as the Second HUB.

Also note, the Network Staff have been busy reducing LAG and network congestion, and maintaining the spamfilter list to remove those awful ON-JOIN spam messages.

With hundreds of users talking all day and night about any random subject theres tons of unique, funny quotes and conversations we like to save to the Quotes database.

Here’s a sample:

Services Update

Some changes have been made to Atomic-IRC’s services, newly registered nicks now have “nick protection” disabled by default. This means that when a user connects with a nick that is already registered but does not identify for it their nick will not be automatically changed to Atomic-IRC5511425 (or something similar).
Network users felt that this feature was more of an annoyance than anything so that’s why it was removed. Please note that nick protection is now only disabled by default to newly registered nicknames, if you would like your previously registered nick to be exempt from the feature type this once identified:
/msg NickServ set kill OFF

Spam Outbreak

The past week has seen an outbreak of (controlled) spam flooding the network. Controlled simply means that spam messages are being detected before being delivered to other users on the network which means nobody actually notices it unless you are sending these spam messages unwillingly and get banned for doing so.
The message being sent network-wide will look something like the following:
“Free Porn, Adult, Sex, Free Movie « http://www.LINK.tr.cx »”.
The way this message spreads, as most readers will probably guess, is by unsuspecting network users clicking on the link which, when opened, will infect the user’s computer with a virus which begins spreading the same message to all or most users that join each channel and the infected user has no idea they are infected and are helping to spread the virus. The url contained in the message can vary, there appear to be about 10 different links which, in this case, all have the suffix .tr.cx although the url i used in the example was fake.
I’d like to remind all users that the issue is now under control thanks to our network’s Spamfilter but if any more messages may appear remember: do not click the url if you don’t recognise it and report it to an IrcOp asap if you think it looks fishy.
If you think you have been wrongfully banned by the network’s spamfilter please don’t hesitate to email admin@atomic-irc.net and explain your problem as fully as possible.

Props to the excellent job being done by network operators and admins.

Atomic-IRC Banner

We are looking for people to make banners for the site. We will have the banners rotate. Banners must be clean (PG-13 or less) and must include the text Atomic-IRC. Also there is a Photoshop template that can be found here. For those of you using anything other then photoshop or the photoshop template wont work for you then make the image at 760px by 200 px and send it in at the highest quality jpg you can.
